INVASIVE PROCEDURES

Invasive Procedures

    • Chorionic Villous Sampling (CVS) (11-13 weeks + 6 days): Early prenatal test where a small sample of the placental tissue is taken to diagnose chromosomal and genetic disorders.
    • Amniocentesis (>16 weeks): Procedure where a small amount of amniotic fluid is extracted to test for genetic abnormalities and fetal infections.
    • Fetal Blood Sampling (Cordocentesis): Direct sampling of fetal blood from umbilical cord to diagnose blood and genetic disorders. It is also done in treatment of severe fetal anaemia requiring blood transfusion.
    • Intrauterine Transfusion: Transfusion of blood into the fetal circulation to treat severe fetal anemia.
    • Fetal Reductions (in Multi Fetal Pregnancy): Reducing the number of fetuses in a multiple pregnancy to decrease risks associated with high-order multiple births.
    • Amnioreduction (Polyhydramnios): Removal of excess amniotic fluid to relieve pressure and reduce complications associated with polyhydramnios.
    • AmnioInfusion (in Oligohydramnios): Injection of saline into the amniotic sac to increase fluid levels in cases of oligohydramnios, improving fetal outcomes.
